When choosing the best wedding venue that’s ideal for a music band, you’ll want to consider certain factors such as acoustics and space. Ideally, the venue should offer enough room for the band to perform without overwhelming the event or crowd. We have had performed in many different spaces, each with their own challenges, but a professional music band with years of experience will make it work. Here are some types of wedding venues that we know are particularly good for hosting live music bands:

1. Historic Estates and Mansions

Historic venues typically have a lot of character, adding a dramatic and timeless backdrop for the wedding. These venues often have spacious ballrooms or lounges with excellent acoustics, ideal for a full band performance.

2. Vineyards and Wineries

Charlottesville, nestled in the heart of Virginia’s wine country, offers couples breathtaking panoramic mountain vistas and sweeping vineyard views, creating the perfect backdrop for a romantic wedding. Many of these vineyards boast expansive outdoor spaces, like tent-covered patios overlooking the vines, and rustic-chic barns or elegant tasting rooms, all of which can comfortably accommodate a live wedding band. Many vineyards also offer dedicated or easily adaptable spaces for a stage, reliable power outlets for the band’s equipment, and versatile spaces for a dance floor, whether you envision a lively celebration under the stars or a more intimate gathering inside.

3. Outdoor Garden and Tent Venues

The best tent venues for a wedding offer ample space for a dance floor, a dedicated stage or performance area, and reliable power sources for the band’s equipment. While tent acoustics differ from indoor spaces, experienced bands know how to optimize sound, often using specialized equipment, to ensure a fantastic listening experience. Plus, a professional band will be well-versed in local sound ordinances, working closely with the venue to ensure compliance, so you can relax and enjoy the celebration.

These venues often feature state-of-the-art lighting systems that can be customized to create the perfect ambiance, from romantic and intimate to vibrant and energetic. 8. Country Club Venues

Country clubs have excellent ballrooms and elegant spaces that fit perfectly for a wedding music band. Couples who love history, or who just wan the extra intimacy, country clubs are the best wedding venues for a wedding music band.

Tips for Booking Your Wedding Music Band:

  • Ask about acoustics: It’s important that the venue can accommodate the type of music you’re planning. A great venue will offer advice on sound equipment and acoustics.
  • Consider the sound level: Some venues may have noise restrictions, particularly in residential areas, so be sure to discuss volume levels with the venue ahead of time.
  • Check for power availability: A live band will need ample power sources for microphones, amps, and speakers, so confirm the venue can provide this.
  • Space for guests and the band: Ensure the venue has enough room for both the guests and the band without feeling cramped.

Choosing the best wedding venue with a good balance of acoustics, style, and space will ensure your live band performance becomes a memorable part of your wedding day!

A Jewish Wedding at The Willard InterContinental, Washington D.C.

Elizabeth and Robert got married at the iconic, 5-star The Willard Hotel InterContinental hotel on July 8, 2023. Known for its luxurious accommodations and historic significance, The Willard InterContinental Hotel has been a favored venue for various high-profile events, including weddings. With its beautifully adorned ballrooms and elegant spaces, the hotel provided the perfect backdrop for their special day.

They had a unique wedding that beautifully blended Caroline’s Jewish heritage and vibrant New York wedding style. New York has always been its own center of culture, history, and unique experiences, weddings especially. In New York, weddings have a distinct flow that keeps the energy high and the party atmosphere alive.

How is a Jewish Wedding Celebrated?

A Jewish wedding reception in particular is a highly structured and time-sensitive event that requires careful attention. Instead of having a traditional seated dinner and long speeches all at once, the evening is divided into multiple dance sets, each lasting no more than 30 minutes. In between these sets guests enjoy dinner, toasts, and special dances, creating a dynamic and engaging celebration.

It can be challenging for many bands to keep up with the fast-paced and precise nature of a Jewish wedding, and Big Ray and the Kool Kats has the experience needed to handle this flawlessly.

What Happens at a Jewish Wedding?

A Jewish wedding is a unique and joyous celebration that typically includes various traditional customs and rituals. The celebration goes on well into the night. We started with bridal introductions and then Elizabeth and Robert’s first dance kicked off the start of the evening with a full dance floor. We made sure to play all of the great hits, as seen in the review by the bride’s father, who wrote it without us having to even ask for a review!

Big Ray and the Kool Kats played at our daughter’s wedding at the Willard Hotel in Washington DC. From the first song until the last, the dance floor was packed. So many people came up to us and said it was the best wedding band they had ever seen. The horn section was incredible and all the musicians were very talented. They played everything: old standards, 60’s hits, Motown, disco/70’s stuff, Hava Nagila, Country, Taylor Swift, The Killers.  We also really appreciated the diverse set of talented vocalists. They were very energetic and enthusiastic. Prior to the wedding my wife, daughter, son-in-law, and I agreed that Ray was personable, interested in our views, and very easy to work with. I don’t think you can go wrong by hiring Big Ray and the Kool Kats.

Marc G., Father of the Bride

After a short break, the party kept going and guests were eager to get back on the dance floor. One of the highlights of a Jewish wedding is the Hora, a favorite of ours to perform. Now, I always insist that the couple be lifted by strong men, such as the groomsmen (isn’t assisting the bride and groom their job anyway?) because especially at The Willard, the chairs are unbelievably heavy. This tradition is always a favorite for family and guests alike. The party never stopped and the dance floor was never empty. What a great night and as always, Big Ray and the Kool Kats is forever grateful to have been part of a couple’s special day!

Big Ray and The Kool Kats Perform in Three Amazing Cities

A KOOL KAT FAMILY AFFAIR

It all started with a Washington DC bride who got married at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. We were just a little nervous when we learned our Washington DC bride worked for Wedding Wire and The Knot, but it ended up being a great party. Many have heard of these sites because most brides do almost all of their wedding planning, look to for ideas, and reviews for their vendors with these sites.  My favorite combination of elegance and get down partying! It was such a pleasure to be apart of such an amazing event.

I got a call shortly thereafter the epic party in Washington DC, hearing the family had so much fun, and they asked Big Ray and the Kool Kats to do it again, only this time oceanfront in Avalon, NJ at The Windrift Resort.  This was going to be a big party with a 19 minute long Polish traditional money dance, which we played live and even sang (phonetically of course) in Polish!

The third time’s a charm wedding took BRKK to Pittsburgh, PA to celebrate with the same family and they made it so warm and easy for us to entertain them yet again. This time the family tradition of each guest bringing their family’s special dessert made #3 just as charming and unique as the first 2!

Big Ray and the Kool Kats is always honored to celebrate with each of our brides, but 3 from the same family made it even more special!

That’s all three brides onstage with us. What a memorable moment.

HOW GREAT TO HAVE ONE OF OUR COUPLE’S WEDDINGS PICKED UP BY WASHINGTONIAN MAGAZINE.

Big Ray and the Kool Kats, one of Washington DC’s most popular wedding bands was delighted to celebrate with a couple who clearly loved their dog, Jolene.

A Parisian-styled wedding with the reception at the Army-Navy Country Club with its views of the city was special enough.

Big Ray always asks his couples for special selections, songs with special meaning, really anything musical Big Ray and the Kool Kats can do to make their wedding reception special.

When during a conversation they mentioned that their dog Jolene was a big part of their lives, we knew what we had to do.

Not in our everyday repertoire, but we love making musical moments. Jolene by Dolly Parton is a great song, and with an introduction so all the wedding guests understood, Big Ray and the Kool Kats launched into it. There was not a dry eye in the house, especially the bride and groom.  Big Ray and the Kool Kats…we make memories.
